S Dilemma: Is It Okay That I'm Ignoring My Friend Because She's So Negative

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Tracy and it's about ignoring a friend. Here's her email: Hi Jaime. First I want to say that I don't feel good about this, but I feel like it was something I had to do.  I've been ignoring a friend who constantly complains about her life but never takes advice or tries to change her situation. She is negative all the time. It was draining me emotionally. Now she's started asking other friends if I'm upset with her. Should I confront her about why I've been distant, or is continuing to avoid her the kinder option in the long run? Can bailing on a friend ever be justified as self-care? What do I do? Thanks for the help ~ Tracy Well, I don't think it's ever okay to bail on or ignore a friend. We've all known people who lean to the negative, but to just ghost them only feeds right into that negativity. It sounds like Tracy has tried to help, so I think now she should sit her friend down and explain why she needs a little friend break. I do believe in self-care, but I don't think not telling someone why you've suddenly stopped talking with them is the right move. That's my take anyway. What do you think? Let's help Tracy out and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
