Social Dilemma: Why Do People Feel the Need to Be "First" On Social Media

Today's 98.3 TRY Social Dilemma came from Tim and it's about social media. Here's his email: Hi Jaime. Is it just me, or have people become even more classless than ever before on social media. Here’s why I ask…yesterday I was called into the office at work and informed that a coworker who didn’t show up to work had ended up passing away. One-by-one, we all got the news, and it didn’t even take one minute before people were posting their “RIP’s” all over social media. Here’s the problem – the guy’s wife was away on business. We don’t know if she’d been informed yet, and yet people were “tagging” her about it. Since I didn’t do it, I fully realize that this isn’t my problem. Still, there seems to be something very wrong with this. Have we become so obsessed with being “first” with news on social media that we’ve forgotten to show some form of class and tact? It really disgusts me…am I alone here? Thanks for the help ~ Tim. I understand how Tim feels. I enjoy social media as much as the next person but we do need to be cautious about how we use it.
